Final preparations under way for fundraising challenge

This weekend a group of local fundraisers will embark on a 130 mile cycle challenge to help the specialist care and compassion provided at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.

On Saturday 19 June a team of 30 fundraisers will embark on the Coast to Coast in a day cycling challenge in aid of the local charity. The challenge will be special for all the fundraisers as they remember loved ones who have been supported by Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw.

Fundraiser Darren Moynan said “Many of the riders have seen first-hand the unbelievable care that the hospice provides for loved ones. They rely heavily on the donations and charitable support they receive, so Damien, Chris and myself all got together and had a think what we could do to raise money. In a moment of madness, we decided doing the coast to coast, but in a day, and for the record, none of us are cyclists!!”.

Recently, the organisers of the event visited Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw to officially unveil the eye-catching cycling jerseys they will be wearing during the challenge. Everyone involved with the challenge would like to say a special thank you to MoynanSmith Accountants, Bailey & Stott Ltd. and Wiseone who are organising the event, and a massive thank you to the host of other local businesses who have pledged their support to the Coast to Coast cycling challenge.

During the challenge the group of fundraisers will travel from Workington to Tynemouth, as they cross the Lake District, Pennines and County Durham. A group of 20 cyclists are set to complete the full route, with a further 10 people finishing the route after around 70 miles at the summit of Hartside Pass.

Eleanor Viney, Fundraising Manager at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw said, “With just a week to go until the challenge, and on behalf of all the patients, families, staff and volunteers at the hospice, I would like to wish everyone taking part the best of luck for the challenge.

“The kindness, generosity and support of the fundraisers, event sponsors and their families and friends really will make a huge difference at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw during these challenging times. The money they raise really will make a big difference to the lives of local adults and children with life limiting illnesses.

“We hope all the fundraisers have a brilliant day and the sun is shining whilst they complete the challenge.”

The money raised by every fundraiser taking part will help Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw to provide the highest standards of specialist care and compassion to local people with life limiting illnesses. This care, compassion and comforting hand to hold is extended to all the patients family, friends and carers. To make a donation and support their fundraising please click here.
