Team Thomas Graham prepare for Great North Run – Part 2

This September a team of fundraisers from Thomas Graham will be pulling on their running shoes and taking part in the Great North Run to raise money in aid of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.

This year’s Great North Run will be special for team Thomas Graham as they run in aid of the local charity. Three members of team Thomas Graham, Ewan Parish, Steven Scott and Phil Barnes explain about why they will be raising money in aid of the local charity. The iconic half marathon will be special for the team as they join a team of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw fundraisers on the start line of the half marathon, each running with their own memory and purpose.

Ewan said,

“I’ve had close family and friends who have received care from the hospice, they have always spoken so highly of the charity so I felt it was my chance to give something back.

Steven added,

“We have chosen to support Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw as they are great charities that do amazing things within the community. We have done fundraising for the hospice before when we completed the 3 peaks challenge and we got to see first-hand how the money can help.”

Every runner taking part in this year’s Great North Run will all have their own memory, reason and purpose for completing the 13.1 mile course. Whether it is to set a personal best time or to raise money in aid of charity they will all create memories which will last a lifetime.

Steven continued,

“A couple of staff within Thomas Graham’s have completed the Great North Run before and talked about how great of an experience it was to be part of it. It’s the biggest half marathon in Europe and there’s 100s of thousands of people littering the streets supporting everyone taking part. As Thomas Graham is a family business, what better achievement for the staff involved to complete a challenge together and raising money for a great cause.

“I’m most looking forward to seeing the team complete the challenge together and having a great day our with family and friends.”

Phil Barnes added,

“I’ve always wanted to complete the Great North Run as it is one of the largest in the world, but never taken the extra steps to sign up before. The incentive and encouragement of running with others from Thomas Graham and in aid of Eden Valley Hospice made the decision very easy this time. Eden Valley Hospice give a huge amount of help and support to the local community and Jigsaw help a young element of that community who might otherwise struggle with their conditions.

“More recently I’ve been made aware of one case where the respite and support given to a young lady with many difficulties has shown how much the support the support from Jigsaw means and feel even more determined to raise as much as we can to help.”

The money raised by team Thomas Graham at the Great North Run will help the local charity to provide care, support and activities to local people with life limiting illnesses. This care and compassion are extended to all the patients’ families, friends and carers. Steven concluded,

“Thank you to Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw for allowing us to take part in the Great North Run. We are really looking forward to completing the challenge, having a great day out and raising as much money as possible.”
