Children’s hospices across the North of England have been meeting informally for some time to share good practice and support each other. While individual hospices have been good at demonstrating impact for babies, children, young people and their families and carers, we want to improve how we demonstrate our impact as a whole for the wider health and care system.
We know how important it is to be sustainable for this small but complex cohort of families and to demonstrate our vital role as providers of care with expertise in this area. With funding from the Albert Hunt Trust the hospices have started a date alignment project, which is hoped to deomstrate our joint impact and how we support babies, children and young people.
This collaborative of Northern Children’s Hospices is made up of:
- Andy’s – part of St Andrew’s in Grimsby
- Bluebell Wood – Sheffield
- Brian House – Blackpool
- Butterwick – Stockton-on-Tees
- Claire House – Merseyside
- Derian House – Chorley
- Forget-Me-Not – Huddersfield
- Francis House – Manchester
- Jigsaw Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice – Carlisle
- St Oswald’s – Newcastle
We cover a large chunk of the north of England and will be able to demonstrate our impact across a large footprint and highlight to our NHS and local authority partners the importance of the role we play as specialist providers of care in supporting our families.
The first phase of the work is to see how each hospice works and where our similarities and differences are. With work already underway, teams are beginning to review and compare how each hospice operates.
