Role Summary

As Laundry volunteer your role will be to support the housekeeping & clinical team by completing the daily laundry tasks, including the washing, drying and pressing of bedding and occasionally clothes.

There are two washers, two dryers, two foot operated presses and a hand iron.

Laundry will mainly consist of sheets  but may also include patient’s clothes (adult and children), towels and facecloths, duvets, placemats and occasionally chef’s clothes from the kitchen.

Sheets are changed at least once a day, more if they become soiled. If a patient is very tired or poorly, then sheets will be changed later in the day.

Days and times

Mon-Fri 10.00am – 2.00pm

Sat-Sun 11.00am – 3.00pm

Role Requirements

Volunteers in the laundry  must be able to work as part of a team.

Long hair should be tied back, nail varnish should not be worn in the Laundry.

Jewellery should be kept to a minimum and shoes should be non-slip.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Adhere to health and safety and infection control standards including use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Complete relevant training and guidance
  • Operate industrial washing machines, tumble driers and rotary irons
  • Fold and pile up laundry once complete
