Getting wet and muddy at one of the area’s top challenge events – Gelt Gladiator – has helped raise more than £5,000 for Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.
A total of 48 people braved the obstacles and challenges presented by Gelt Gladiator earlier this summer to raise vital funds for the charity, which provides care and support to local people with life limiting illnesses.
The hospice had its own ‘wave’ as part of event and was an official charity partner for the last two years.
The partnership is set to continue with the hospice once again having its own wave for the 2024 Telford Automobiles Gelt Gladiator, which will take place near Walton, north of Brampton, on June 8 and 9.
The charity has also been kindly gifted a number of places for those who wish to take part and fundraise for the hospice as part of their challenge. All the hospice asks is that participants agree to raise a minimum of £50 for the charity, to guarantee a place at ‘Cumbria’s largest mass participation sporting event’ as part of Team EVH/Jigsaw.
Gelt Gladiator offers four events over two days for all ages and levels of ability and more than 15,000 mud runners have taken part in the event since it’s began in 2015.
‘Honour to work with hospice’
Mike James, organiser of the event, recently visited the hospice and said: “The Gelt Gladiator team is honoured to be working with the hospice and is so pleased with the amount of money raised last year. We’re all really looking forward to helping this wonderful charity raise even more next year.”
Vicki Lesley, from the hospice’s fundraising team, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in this year’s Gelt Gladiator and raised vital funds for the hospice. It costs more than £4 million each year to provide this care and support to adults and children from across Cumbria and we couldn’t do it without the help of the local community.
“We must also say thank you to Mike and the rest of the team behind Gelt Gladiator for being wonderful supporters of the hospice and allowing us this great fundraising opportunity.”
