Charity Commission Visit

16 July 2025

We were delighted to welcome Mark Simms, Chair, and Rachel Angeli, Events and Engagement Officer, from the Charity Commission, for a recent visit to the hospice. They were joined by Julie Clayton, our Chief Executive, and Paul Agnew, Trustee, for a guided tour. Along the way, they took time to speak with the dedicated individuals who make quality hospice care possible every day.

Carol Green, one of our valued Spiritual Care Volunteers, shared insights into her role on the ward. Whether it’s offering a quiet presence, holding a hand, or facilitating connections with local faith leaders, Carol’s compassion and support brings comfort to patients and their families. Without our dedicated volunteers, we would be lost! One of our Volunteer Gardener’s, Jenny, was tending to the gardens, as she does each week, where she enthused about the hard-work that goes into creating the peaceful outdoor space which we are so very lucky to have.

Mark was particularly touched by the cuddle bed in the Jigsaw bedroom—a bed slightly bigger than a single bed that allows families to cuddle up, creating a sense of home and togetherness. He also expressed admiration for our much-loved sensory room, noting how the thoughtful, personal touches throughout the hospice create meaningful experiences and leave a lasting impression on those we care for.

The visit was both informative and uplifting, offering staff and volunteers a valuable opportunity to share their experiences and perspectives.
