Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice in Carlisle, have expressed their delight at receiving a very generous donation from A.W. Jenkinson Forest Products. The company has been a long-standing supporter of the hospice and recently donated six cubic meters of composted bark fines which will play a crucial role in enhancing the hospice’s garden area.
The charity located on Durdar Road plan to use the compost to keep the hospice gardens looking fresh whilst creating a safe, calming space for patients and visitors of the hospice.
This donation was particularly timely, as the hospice recently received a fantastic delivery of bedding plants from B&Q Carlisle but lacked the compost which was needed to plant them. The freshly planted garden will create a bright and welcoming environment for patients and their families.
Ella Purdy, Digital Marketing Apprentice, at A.W. Jenkinson Forest Products, said:
“We were delighted to donate some compost to Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw. Their work to support people with life-limiting illnesses is invaluable, and all of the gardening that their wonderful volunteer gardeners will be getting up to with the new compost will surely brighten the days of those who visit.”
The donation has also helped the hospice’s volunteer gardeners to create the Garden of Memories display area. The Garden of Memories is the hospice’s annual remembrance event, which took place on 13th August 2024. It provides a space for families to remember their loved ones by displaying their names in the garden throughout August.
Jerry Hall, Facilities Manager at the hospice expressed his thanks, “We’re very grateful for the very generous donation of compost from A.W. Jenkinson Forest Products and thank them for their ongoing support. Contributions from the community are essential in helping the hospice maintain its caring and compassionate environment for patients and visitors.”
