| We are once again inviting families across Cumbria to remember a loved one this summer with the launch of our annual ‘Garden of Memories’.
The appeal gives you the chance to make a real difference to your local hospice and the families who receive our dedicated and compassionate care. The appeal also provides the opportunity to remember someone special by making a donation enabling the option of having either a wildflower sown, a chosen memorial word or a personalised message engraved on a wooden plaque and displayed in the Hospice gardens throughout August. |

Your support allows us to continue providing care – like we did for Cynthia and Carl
My name is Cynthia and I want to invite you take part in our annual Garden of Memories appeal and make a real difference to local families who need compassionate care and support.
The hospice is a lifeline to many families, caring for people through some of their most challenging times. We pride ourselves on being there to care for our community when they need us most, and we hope that once
again you can continue to support the work we do.
I know only too well how important your local hospice’s gardens are – not only because I’m one of the small, but dedicated, team of volunteers who look after the grounds – but also because they were such a special
place for my husband Carl and I while he was being cared for.
"Every time I go into the walled garden I think of Carl"
Carl spent many weeks being looked during three stays in the hospice in 2012 following his diagnosis with skin cancer, and later brain cancer. He was incredibly ill, not eating, being sick and suffering with excruciating
headaches, but the wonderful care he received from nurses, doctors and other members of staff helped him to feel more like himself again and gave us precious time to be together before he died in the hospice.
Carl’s room backed onto the walled garden, a quiet and peaceful area which we spent so much time in. He often wasn’t well enough to go any further, so it was lovely to have this green space full of new life so close by.
The experience we had left such an impression on me that ever since, I’ve been volunteering to help maintain the gardens so others can enjoy them like we did.
Every time I go into the walled garden I think of Carl. It reminds of me of his bravery and how I never heard him complain once despite his illness, but the colours of the flowers also remind of his love for life, his love for rock music and leather jackets and his passion for visiting new places across the world, something we shared together.

As part of our Garden of Memories appeal, your donation will help your hospice’s gardens continue to be a safe and peaceful place for patients and their families and friends.
£10 will allow
a wildflower to be planted in out wild meadow area that will return year after year, in memory of your loved one
£30 will allow
a wildflower to be sown, along with a wooden plaque to be placed in the garden throughout the month of August, with a choice of the six ‘Loved, Remembered, Blessed, Hearts, Missed and Angel’ in memory of your loved one
£50 will allow
£50 donation will allow a wildflower to be sown, along with a personalised plaque to be placed in the garden throughout August to remember your loved one.

The Rollover
The winning number for each prize is chosen at random by computer, from all the entries in that week’s draw. The rollover prize is chosen from all the numbers from the Lottery’s database. If that number has been paid for that week, the prize is won. If not, the value of the prize rolls over to the following week’s prize pot. This continues until a winner is found or the rollover reaches £10,000, at which point it is guaranteed to be won.
